Senior Embedded Software Engineer

Reports to

Development Manager

Responsible for

Software Engineering project deliverables.

Overall purpose

Delivering Software Work Items in line with the Software Development Life Cycle for Medical Devices.

Main competencies

The successful applicants will have an exceptional academic and industrial background.

You will have expert skills and experience in delivering quality embedded C software and design documentation as part of the complete project development lifecycle. You will have at least 10 years experience in developing high quality industrial embedded software.

Essential skills

  • 10 years experience in embedded C language software is essential.
  • 8 years experience of electronics, microcontroller, ARM and device drivers (I2C, SPI, USART, ADC, DAC).
  • 4 years experience in developing software for STM32 Microcontrollers.
  • 4 years experience in design and development using Enterprise Architect.
  • 4 years experience in development and testing using VectorCAST.
  • Experience in full software life cycle (SDLC).
  • Good written and verbal communication skills.
  • Technical degree in Computer Science, Electrical/Electronic Engineering (2i or better) or equivalent software development experience.


  • 8 years experience of working within a quality based system (ISO 9001:2000/ ISO 13485).
  • 4 years experience in developing medical software to IEC 62304 or safety critical software to BS EN 61508.
  • Experience in using MS Office, MS Project, TortoiseSVN and Perforce.
  • Knowledge of Assembler would be advantageous.
  • Knowledge of communications interfaces RS232, I2C and USB.
  • Knowledge of ISO 60601, ISO 14971, IEC 62366, ISO 80601-2-13 and FDA 21 CFR 820 would be advantageous.
  • Experience in actively participating in Continuous Process Improvement..
